Summary:
On a Wedensday morning, The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey were forced to shut down a runway after turtles were spotted crawling on the surface at John F. Kennedy International Airport. The closure of the runway forced delays of 90 minutes. The Federal Aviation Administration reported that turtles do come from the water every year and according to their Wildlife Strike Database, luckily there have been no recent strike causing damage to any aircraft.
Reflections:
This article is very important because air transportation is a very sophisticated method of transportation and travel. Animals and our planet is also very important to us and we should make sure that animals remain and stay unharmed. It's important that despite frustrating delays at airports and miserable pilots waiting to continue on with their flights, our animals and nature should be safe. On another flight in January 2009, A plane taking off from LaGuardia Airport (Another major airport in the New York area) struck birds despite the pilots trying to somewhat avoid the birds. The Airbus A320 had to ditch in the Hudson River so it would not hurt people and more birds which is why we should take precaution despite the frustrating delays.
If you would like to learn more about the 2009 accident click here for a wikipedia article ( It's safe - I modified 1 day ago with true information) and if you would like to watch a video, click here for a documentary on YouTube. The documentary is about 30-45 minutes long.
I like the way that you are very interested in aeronautics. I am happy that you already have a dream of what you career you would like to have in your future.
ReplyDeleteWhat a surprise that you have chosen this article (not)! Your summary is wonderful because you use your own words and tell us only the most important details. It's also amazing how you make all sorts of other connections to different texts and world experiences in your reflection. Fantastic stuff.
ReplyDeleteWell US Airways flight 1549 did ask a lot of questions. Also why I want to be a pilot or an Air Traffic Controller in New York, Montreal or Atlanta; some of the busiest airports.
ReplyDeleteFor some weird reason the second time I read this I found it even more interesting and weird. It is so weird when any size animal can do so much damage to a machine. For example if a plane hits a goose in the air the plane has a chance of crashing. It's weird how these turtles are so small and it delayed planes which are much bigger than the turtles.
ReplyDeleteYou should watch the YouTube video. Just click and watch the documentary. It is very interesting and you learn a lot from it
ReplyDeleteBut also you should ask me for some more information. Its really cool how the criteriA to certify a jet engine and even an aircraft. So ask. Me some questions.
ReplyDeleteIt went like this:
ReplyDelete2 songbirds

Zin, I like how you chose something that is exotic and uncommon.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading your summary! It`s cool.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Now the video is in another post near the top of the page.
ReplyDeleteOne other thing - If you watch the video, you will find out many information like how First Officer Skiles and Captain Sullenberger are now one of the most famous crews on the planet.
ReplyDeleteIn response from Dark Falcon:
ReplyDeleteEven a rock with 20 cm diameter can destroy an engine; what happens is the rock hits the titanium blades and those blades throw shrapnel at the primary jet core, therefore, there is an engine failure or the engine might disintegrate like one time in a Fokker 100
