CYYZ (Toronto Pearson International Airport) can't be used; it handles international traffic and would force lengthy delays for small aircraft (Distance from Toronto: 11.9 KM)
CYTZ (Toronto Billy Bishop International Airport) can't be used; a cramped space would not allow more aircraft and international traffic makes use of a warehouse to be out of the question (Distance from Toronto: 1 KM (due to flying time))
CYZD (Toronto Downsview Airport) Used as a manufacturing facility and cannot be used for the public (Distance from Toronto: approx 15 KM)
The organisations nearest airport that they can use is Oshawa Airport (CYOO) and is more than 40 KM from downtown Toronto and cannot be used as it would take 30 minutes from Oshawa to Toronto. As for the Weather Network, they would have to pay to use land as in Buttonville Airport, the amount of pay was low as it was essential for the Weather Network to conduct forecasting for wind and temperature for the aircraft taking off and landing.

Another Tenerife Disaster Happened! This Time, in Toronto!
One of the deadliest near miss to happen on Canadian soil today. Literally, the American Eagle flight and the Air Canada flight were just feet from each other to crash. This article will be coming soon on this blog. After/or if, the final report and the Air Traffic Control voice recorder become for public use, I will analyze these and create my own final report along with a timeline of events.

Aerodynamics: What is it?

Aerodynamics doesn't seem to interest the general public. Normally, when someone hear the word "Aero", they often refer it to airplanes or the massive engines abord a jet. Aerodynamics doesn't just apply to the world of advanced aviation and its partner, aeronautics. Aerodynamics apply to planes, engines, cars, trains, boats and even yourself, you have aerodynamical properties. Aerodynamics involves, in aviation, drag, thrust, weight and lift, the four principles of flight. When you run, you have aerodynamical properties. When you run, you can make yourself faster by changing your aerodynamical properties. For example, if you run with a clenched fist, you create drag, therefore, making yourself slower and harder for you to run fast. But, when you run with your hand straight at your side against the wind, you reduce the amount of drag making it easier for you to run and, therefore, run faster. This is a basic rule of aerodynamics, which involves 2 of the principles of flight indicated above. Aerodynamics is an interaction with a moving object. This means that anything that moves, has aerodynamics involved. In advanced science, aerodynamics is a branch of dynamics. Cars have aerodynamical properties too. A car produces drag when it hits the oncoming air. The thrust in this part is the engine, which provides power to move forward. Aerodynamics, which involves trains and cars, also has significant in the area of air and flight. Specifically moving to aviation and aeronautics. In aviation, you do not have only lift and drag, you have all sorts of things like turbulence (differences in air pressure), pressure changes, even strong winds can affect the airplanes performance and even it's aerodynamical characteristics. The winds can be a factor of thrust, or a factor of drag. If the wind is a tailwind (a wind that goes in the direction of the plane - push the aircraft forward) is a thrust factor. If the wind is a headwind (a wind that goes in the opposite direction of the plane - pushes the aircraft backward) is a drag factor. The reason why a headwind is like a drag factor is because it makes it harder for the aircraft to gain speed. The reason why a tailwind is like a thrust factor is because it makes it easier for the aircraft to gain speed. Remember, aerodynamics is not just about planes, about every moving thing.

How Does an Afterburner Work?
How does an Afterburner Work?
A jet engine, like many other engines is a reaction engine. It works by absorbing air, compressing the air in a combustion chamber where the air expands greatly and then it is shot back out at the back of the engine as air and exaust at about Mach 2 or about 1500 miles/hour. This is known as thrust. An engine absorbs air and shoots it out as a hot gas.
An afterburner is a part of an engine that acts like a booster. The afterburner is another stage fitted on only a certain amount of their engines like that of a Rolls Royce/SNECMA Olympus 593 fitted on the Supersonic Concorde. The afterburner injects fuel directly into the exaust stream expanding the air even more and creating nearly 50% more thrust to the engines' thrust.
Modern jet engines use a turbine to improve the fuel effiency of a jet engine. This allows the jet engine to work at lower speeds and therefore lower temperatures. The turbine compresses the air before fuel is injected in the combustion chamber. This modern engine is extremely efficent. For example, on a Boeing 747-400, the aircraft can earn up to 19 miles per passenger gallon.

Turtles Create Delays at John F. Kennedy International Airport
Summary:
On a Wedensday morning, The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey were forced to shut down a runway after turtles were spotted crawling on the surface at John F. Kennedy International Airport. The closure of the runway forced delays of 90 minutes. The Federal Aviation Administration reported that turtles do come from the water every year and according to their Wildlife Strike Database, luckily there have been no recent strike causing damage to any aircraft.
Reflections:
This article is very important because air transportation is a very sophisticated method of transportation and travel. Animals and our planet is also very important to us and we should make sure that animals remain and stay unharmed. It's important that despite frustrating delays at airports and miserable pilots waiting to continue on with their flights, our animals and nature should be safe. On another flight in January 2009, A plane taking off from LaGuardia Airport (Another major airport in the New York area) struck birds despite the pilots trying to somewhat avoid the birds. The Airbus A320 had to ditch in the Hudson River so it would not hurt people and more birds which is why we should take precaution despite the frustrating delays.

A runway at one of New York' major airports was closed after about 80 turtles began emerging from the waters and into the runway and its surrounding taxiways. It started when the flight crew of an American Eagle flight reported that about 3 turtles were emerging while taxing to the runway for departure. After only a few minutes, many pilots began reporting about turtles approaching the runway' threshold and the grass. The Federal Aviation Administration stopped flights to give time for the local authorities to clear them up and then was forced to shut down operations with the runway after more pilots began reporting massive numbers on the runway' surface. The authorites then had to clear the turtles back into an area further from the airport property. These forced delays for 90 minutes stranding many passengers officals accounced. The turtles appeared to be Diamondback Terrapins, a species common in the area which surrounds the airport. Every year, aircraft to strike the turtles sometime during the year according to the FAA wildlife strike database. According to their database, there have been no recent reports of any strike causing damage to any aircraft.
