Making My App

My app would be a mobile web designer. It would be a completely powerful innovative tool. It would let small businesses to design a website for their company, right from their mobile device. Instead of using a laptop, designers can download the app on to their device and design a stunning website. Other features would allow the developer to edit and modify the html of their website. Set a custom domain and track their statistics. Furthermore, even if the device doesn't support essential website features like flash, the website can use flash in an innovative way to display advertisements or other features such as a small game or animation and develop and integrate it within the website. The mobile web designer would be an innovative tool, to let anyone make an amazing website, right from their mobile device.

What does advertising do to us?
Advertising is everywhere. It’s in the media, on the radio, in schools and universities. Really, advertising is everywhere. Even a small poster can make a big advertisement. So, the question is, what does advertising do to us? And to the kids?
The root to advertising is what the product is, and what the advertisers use to capture your attention. Normally, advertisers are after the big markets; food, clothing and music. The reason these are dominant is because the general public is in to the latest trends in fashion, they always want the best music and the latest ones, and they love to eat. These markets are very dominant in the world today - thanks to advertising. Advertising has also created much competition. Without advertising, the market would be very small, and companies, especially the small ones, would not be able to get their products out, easily. Teens are a main focus for advertisers. Since they are generally new to the markets, and a number of other things like peer pressure, teens are always the ones being targeted. The purpose of advertising is really to get their product out and sell it in great numbers. But, the question is, does advertising affect the public in a good way, or in a bad way? In the food market, companies like Wendy’s and McDonalds are in great competition for market share. These big players will come up with interesting advertisements to regain control and attract more consumers. In the clothing market, companies will advertise the latest trends, bringing many teens and other people into their stores. In the music market, companies will make the most out of their music and sell it at maybe $1.29 a song. Many teens like songs, and will get the latest ones. Kids and teens, just want the latest stuff and the only way they know about the latest things is through advertising. That, gets them making their parents to go to get it. I think that ads can be good and bad and that today's advertisers are going way too far. It's just not right.
Many teens really don’t think that they are affected by advertising. Think again. You probably are affected by it. You just don’t realise it.

What I think I did well:

• Planned the video well
• Taught in a way a 5 year old would understand
• Had a good idea on what to say
• No hesitations or pausing (except the time I found there was holes in the bread! That was very unexpected and surprising for me! If you watch my video, you can really see what happened at 01:40 of the video!)
• Chose good music to go with the video
• Was able to learn how to quickly use Pinnacle (a video making software used by pros)
• Was able to edit cleanly and fix and crop unwanted video

What I think I could improve or do differently:

• Try to figure out how to adjust the volume for the clips and the background music (Couldn't find out how!)
• Try and get iMovie to be with the same level as the class
• Seek more feedback from friends to find their opinion

What is Good About Our Filming?

There is obviously a number of advantages and disadvantages to our Instructional Video Project. Each person has a different ability to do different things and we can learn from each other. It what helps us in learning and it gives us our character and allows us to be unique from one another.

Pros on the Instructional Video Project:

• We can learn from each other
• We can find out how to different things
• We can find a person better than before
• We have a chance to make and finalize a how-to video
• We will make mistakes and improve
• We will give positive feedback to help others improve
• We will communicate, collaborate and talk with each other
• We will have fun and enjoy learning on this project

 A jet engine, like many other engines is a reaction engine. It works by absorbing air, compressing the air in a combustion chamber where the air expands greatly and then it is shot back out at the back of the engine as air and exaust at about Mach 2 or about 1500 miles/hour. This is known as thrust. An engine absorbs air and shoots it out as a hot gas.

Modern jet engines use a turbine to improve the fuel effiency of a jet engine. This allows the jet engine to work at lower speeds and therefore lower temperatures. The turbine compresses the air before fuel is injected in the combustion chamber. This modern engine is extremely efficent. For example, on a Boeing 747-400, the aircraft can earn up to 19 miles per passenger gallon.

An afterburner is a part of an engine that acts like a booster. The afterburner is another stage fitted on only a certain amount of their engines like that of a Rolls Royce/SNECMA Olympus 593 fitted on the Supersonic Concorde. The afterburner injects fuel directly into the exaust stream expanding the air even more and creating nearly 50% more thrust to the engines' thrust.


The advantage of an afterburner is it can significantly add more thrust without adding weight, complexity and higher speeds and temperature to the engine. An afterburner is basically just a number of fuel injectors to compress the air further and increase the thrust of an engine.

The disadvantage of the afterburner is that it uses a lot of fuel to generate its power.

The afterburner was an amazing design for the 1970s to 1990s but now has come out of commercial service due to the retirement of the Concorde. Military aircraft like the F-18 and the SR-71 still has afterburner to aid with special missions or to take-off from a short airstrip.

This article is about an afterburner which is a stage in certain jet engines that compresses the air to create more thrust. The afterburner does have to burn more fuel to perform this. Military aircraft still use afterburners to help aid the performance of the aircraft and this is very important.

Reflection:
This article is very important to me because it was essential to the developpement of many military aircraft and the supersonic Concorde. To develop new technologies, it is important to look to the past to build the future. With advancing technology, we don't know if previous technology is best for us. The afterburner, in my opinion, is an aviation and aeronautical symbol. The afterburner is a great design giving its excellent performance. What is good about the article is the way the afterburner works. Very cool and interesting.

Turtles Create Delays at John F. Kennedy International Airport

Summary:
On a Wedensday morning, The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey were forced to shut down a runway after turtles were spotted crawling on the surface at John F. Kennedy International Airport. The closure of the runway forced delays of 90 minutes. The Federal Aviation Administration reported that turtles do come from the water every year and according to their Wildlife Strike Database, luckily there have been no recent strike causing damage to any aircraft.

Reflections:
This article is very important because air transportation is a very sophisticated method of transportation and travel. Animals and our planet is also very important to us and we should make sure that animals remain and stay unharmed. It's important that despite frustrating delays at airports and miserable pilots waiting to continue on with their flights, our animals and nature should be safe. On another flight in January 2009, A plane taking off from LaGuardia Airport (Another major airport in the New York area) struck birds despite the pilots trying to somewhat avoid the birds. The Airbus A320 had to ditch in the Hudson River so it would not hurt people and more birds which is why we should take precaution despite the frustrating delays.

A runway at one of New York' major airports was closed after about 80 turtles began emerging from the waters and into the runway and its surrounding taxiways. It started when the flight crew of an American Eagle flight reported that about 3 turtles were emerging while taxing to the runway for departure. After only a few minutes, many pilots began reporting about turtles approaching the runway' threshold and the grass. The Federal Aviation Administration stopped flights to give time for the local authorities to clear them up and then was forced to shut down operations with the runway after more pilots began reporting massive numbers on the runway' surface. The authorites then had to clear the turtles back into an area further from the airport property. These forced delays for 90 minutes stranding many passengers officals accounced. The turtles appeared to be Diamondback Terrapins, a species common in the area which surrounds the airport. Every year, aircraft to strike the turtles sometime during the year according to the FAA wildlife strike database. According to their database, there have been no recent reports of any strike causing damage to any aircraft.

OWA - How To Play Dodgeball

My favourite game is dodgeball because it is a very simple, easy and fun game to play. There are many versions of Dodgeball including Doctor Dodgeball and Elimination Dodgeball but we'll stick with Elimination Dodgeball because it's easier to play. The objective of the game is to not get hit with the ball by the opposing team and to get many people from the opposing team out. How play is very simple. First, you need to find a large rectangluar field, preferably the size of a gym you would normally find in a school. That field needs to have lines dividing the field into two congruent seperate rectangles. Second, you need to find many soft balls.  About one dodgeball for every 3 people. For example, 5 dodgeballs for 18 people or 7 dodgeballs for for 20 people. If you feel, that there is not enough dodgeballs, add more to the game. Third, place the dodgeballs in the centre line of the area and make all the players go to the 2 ends of the field; one team goes to one end and the other goes to the other end. Countdown backwards from 3. 3. 2. 1. Game's on! Start the game with everyone running to get the ball but be careful! If you get hit with a dodgeball by the other team, you're out! The game ends when everyone has become out. To become out, the dodgeball has to hit you below the waist and may not bounce before hitting the player. If the ball bounces before hitting the player, the player is not out. But, if the ball doesn't bounce, the player is out. Start the game and have fun!
